EMS service provider Limtronik expands SMT assembly in the USA

EMS service provider Limtronik is considered a shining example of a smart factory. In addition to manufacturing at its headquarters in Limburg an der Lahn, the company has been operating a sister company in the USA (Denver) since 2010. The electronics manufacturer is now expanding its capacities at its US branch: in the future, Limtronik will also expand its PCB assembly operations at this location. This is the company's response to the increasing demands of its customers there, such as short delivery routes and high availability.

In 2010, Limtronik GmbH decided to establish Limtronik USA, Inc. with headquarters in Denver, Colorado. The range of services and products offered by the EMS service provider there is almost identical to that of the German branch. However, unlike the Limburg headquarters, Limtronik USA, Inc. has only offered limited PCB assembly services to date. The American site has mainly specialized in the assembly of complex control panels and switch cabinets. Limtronik is now also installing professional SMT production in the USA, enabling it to offer large-scale PCB production locally.

“At the end of 2024, we made the decision to expand our existing capacities at the local level and to adapt and expand existing knowledge and manufacturing processes from Germany to the American market,” explains Gerd Ohl, Managing Director of Limtronik GmbH.

Limtronik is now implementing a complete SMT line in Denver for this purpose. State-of-the-art automation technologies and integrated quality assurance procedures are used for assembly. This ensures flexible adaptation to individual customer requirements from different industries. Limtronik USA is certified according to UL508A, UL698A, UL1741, and ISO 9001:2015 standards.

Close integration between German and North American locations

With this expansion of capacity, Limtronik is extending its international presence. Local production in Denver contributes significantly to the robustness of the supply chain and supports Limtronik's long-term market expansion. At the same time, the company is promoting cooperation between its German and American locations. In the future, the two branches will learn from each other's experiences with a closely integrated team.

Dr. Anjou Appelt, Managing Director at Limtronik, says: "Two aspects were decisive for our decision: firstly, the vertical integration of all services along the value chain and, secondly, local production in the USA – both to increase availability and in line with the ‘Buy American Act’ and the ‘Built in America’ principle. This will enable us to serve our existing customers even more closely and strategically expand our portfolio to tap into new markets and customers."
